Background of the study:
Pentecostal churches have become influential socio-economic institutions in many Nigerian communities, exerting substantial impact on local economic structures. In Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, these churches serve as centers of community engagement, social support, and even economic activity (Ibrahim, 2023). Their influence extends beyond spiritual guidance to include organizing community development projects, offering financial assistance, and promoting small business ventures among congregants (Chinwe, 2024). The integration of religious initiatives with economic activities has fostered entrepreneurial spirit and local economic growth. However, the dual role of Pentecostal churches as both spiritual and economic entities raises questions about their impact on traditional economic systems and the allocation of resources (Nwosu, 2025). This study critically examines how Pentecostal churches influence local economic practices and structures, exploring both the benefits of community mobilization and potential conflicts arising from commercial activities linked to religious organizations (Ibrahim, 2023).
Statement of the problem:
In Yenagoa, the expanding role of Pentecostal churches in local economic activities has led to a reconfiguration of traditional economic structures. While providing support and opportunities, these churches may also create dependency and distort local market dynamics. This study seeks to understand these conflicting impacts (Chinwe, 2024).
